May Luxe Box

So I caved and subscribed to luxe box! It's similar to birchbox in the USA and glossy box from the UK. If you don't know what it is - it's a monthly subscription service for $12 per month. You receive 3-5 deluxe samples to try out in this beautifully packaged box.

For a beauty junkie like me this is the perfect way to curb my spending. It's like getting a present in the mail every month :). The samples are very generous and most last at least a month even with regular use. I'm always picking up sample size products for $10 each when I'm standing in line at Sephora and I find that luxe box is way better value.

Overall I really like this service, have you tried any of these 'monthly sample box' services?

China Glaze Nail Polish in Sexy

I love China Glaze nail polishes, although this shade isn't something I'd normally wear I still loved receiving a nail polish in my package.

Elizabeth Grant Biocolassis Complex Day Serum

I actually really love this product, the only downside is that it is a little sticky. I wouldn't recommend this as a day serum since it is quite hard to blend foundation immediately after applying ths product. I use this every single night after cleansing my skin and before my moisturizer. The sample is enough for a 2 month supply, I will continue to finish this product. Even though I love it I don't think I will re-purchase it since it is still not the best serum I have tried.

Consonant Organic Body Soap

This is the one product that I hated. I have dry skin and this dried out my skin even more with only one use. It did come with a cute little loofah to rest your soap on, but it just wasn't for me.

Dermologica Daily Microfoliant

This product is amazing for sensitive skin, it contrains no fragrance or colour. I'm allergic to a majority of skin products that I try and I love this! I will continue purchasing this once my sample runs out.

How did I like my lipsticks?

I've used YSL Rouge Voluptes before so I already knew that I'd love the formula of these. They're silky smooth when applied and smell absolutely amazing. Only down-side is that because they're so soft, you end up applying too much and finishing the entire tube very quickly. Both of the colours I picked turned out gorgeous in real life and were exactly what I expected.

I do admit they were quite the splurge but they're going to be my 'special occassion' lipsticks. The gorgeous packaging also makes them the perfect lipstick to pull out of my clutch on a night out. If you have some extra money and are looking for a splurge I'd highly recommend any of the lipsticks in this line.

TEA PARTIES aren't just for little girls

I attended a Tea Party celebrating the Royal Wedding held at the Windsor Arms Hotel. If you couldn't tell, I'm one of the girls with a slight case of 'wedding fever' over the royal wedding this friday. I think it stems from my love for weddings, fairytales & british royal history.

If you are also in the royal wedding mood, I would recommend picking up 'The White Queen' by Philippa Gregory. It's a fictional love story about Elizabeth Woodville and King Edward IV of England. I read it last summer and it was a really fun read.

How to - Rainbow Cupcakes

I made these rainbow layered cupcakes a couple days ago, they actually turned out super cute.

Here's a guide on how to make them.

♥ Step 1 - Buy vanilla cake mix and prepare it according to instructions or make your own cake batter (I used Betty Crocker white cake mix)

♥ Step 2 - Separate batter into 4 bowls (or as many layers of colours as you would like)

♥ Step 3 - Add a drop of food colouring into each bowl, mix & repeat until desired shade of colour is achieved

♥ Step 4 - Line your cupcake pan with cupcake holders

♥ Step 5 - pour in your first layer of batter, I chose yellow

♥ Step 6 - Put the first layer into the oven for approximately 2-3 minutes so that it will harden. This step is very very important and ensures that your layers of colour don't mix.

♥ Step 7 - Take the first layer out of the oven and pour on your 2nd - I chose blue this time. Stick back into the oven like last time for 2-3 minutes for 2nd layer to harden.

♥ Step 8 - Take out of the oven and pour on 3rd layer, mine's pink.

Stick back into oven for 2-3 minutes for 3rd layer to harden.

♥ Step 9 - Take the first 3 layers out of the oven and add your last.

♥ Step 10 - Stick the cupcakes back into the oven for 10 minutes or until they look ready.

♥ Step 11 - Decorate! I bought Betty Crocker canned icing and used the same food colouring from before to make colourful frosting.

Someday Summary - blog anniversary

1. It's my birthday! And by me I meant this blog of course - it's been exactly one year since my first post. New Year's Resolution - I promise my blogposts will be less spotty - I've been getting better at posting regularly lately!

2. I'm currently obsessed with drinking love spell tea from teaopia. It's a green tea along with papaya, coconut, pineapple, and candy hearts - the concept of it was too cute for me to pass up.

3. I accidentally swiped off my side-view mirror on my car this week in my parking garage while trying to shimmy into the tiny parking spot. I googled side-view mirrors hoping for a picture, but the only thing that came up was Wikipedia informing me that "side-view mirrors are easily damaged" - thanks wikipedia, now I know. It was also my first "car accident" - quite the milestone, don't know if I should be proud or not. For now my car isn't drivable yet and I'm kind of stranded at home, boo.

My Beauty Diary face-mask

I first heard about My Beauty Diary face masks from missglamorazzi on youtube.

I purchased these as a novelty item due to it's adorable packaging.

This is the sampler multi-pack contraining 5 different signature face masks.

Where can you buy these:

They're sold in asian beauty stores or supermarkets. I bought mine from T&T Supermarket.

How much are they:

Retail price in North America is $15-20 for a pack of 10 masks.

What are the benefits:

Although each mask has different purposes - these masks promise to tighten pores, hydrate your skin & brighten your complexion.

How do they work:

Inside is a sheet mask soaked with serum - peel off and separate the paper mask from the plastic like a sticker - smooth onto & adjust the mask to fit your face - leave on for 20-30 minutes

Scent:

One big perk to these masks is that they all smell amazing.

(Don't worry - they aren't too overwhelming once applied)

Results:

My skin was left soft & smooth immediately after removal of the mask - for the next several days my skin felt plump and rejuvenated.

The effects were temporary, overall the results from the mask were mediocre.

I'm sad to say that I don't love these masks as much as everyone else does.

I will still continue buying these since they're so cute and a nice treat when I want to pamper myself.

UPDATE
I change my review of this product from mediocre to amazing! I just tried the 'black pearl mask' and the results were far superior to the others in the pack. I would give this one 10/10 - I was having a bad skin day and this mask completely tamed my skin. I definitely recommend the black pearl mask out of the 5 different kinds that came in this set.

I had the pleasure of attending the Estee Lauder/MAC/Bobbi Brown warehouse a couple months ago. I won a ticket to the private sale from the lovely Joyce at Sparkly Playground, Emily from THIS WAS FOREVER also joined us. It was far less busy and less crowded than I expected, most people were polite and formed lines around bins that were crowded. It was really exciting since I've been wanting to go to this sale for a few years now, thanks Joyce :).

MAC warehouse FAQ's

Where are mac warehouse sales?
They are held in Toronto, Canada.

When are mac warehouse sales?
They are held 4 times a year.

Where can you get tickets for this sale?
Tickets are given to employees of mac and other estee lauder employees. Some tickets are also sold or given away online.

When should you start lining up?
You should get there an hour or two prior to opening, after that the line gets ridiculously long and you may wait even longer than that. If you don't mind getting left overs or the possibility of not getting in - coming at the end of the day may also be a good idea since the lines are completely gone by then and you won't have to wait.

What is it like inside?
There are 3 very large warehouses connected, how the make up is divided between the rooms varies each time. In each room, there are tables with make up glued down to the table for you to swatch. The items are also labeled and numbered - there are paper/pencils near by for you to write down the numbers of items you'd like. (tip - bring your own pencil and paper) Once you're done with swatching and have your list of items to buy, line up and someone working behind the table will get your items for you.

The sections of tables are usually skin & body, nail polish & concealers, foundations, brushes, eye shadows, blushes, lipsticks & $4 bins. "$4 bins" are popular - the lines for these are also horrendously long. These bins have all kinds of random stuff including lashes, make up tools, mini cleansing oil, mini fix +, and sample sized make up. I would say it's definitely worth the wait, although it used to be $3 bins! There are also random tables scattered throughout the rooms selling old holiday and event sets - becareful though since I saw some of the same products marked different prices because they were in different rooms.

What does "bagging" a product mean?

When you line up to receive products you picked out, lets say at the lipstick table - they will put all your products in a little sealed plastic bag and write the total price on top. This is to prevent shoplifting and make cashing out at the cashiers faster. If you change your mind about something in your prepackaged bag - you have to go to a "re-bagging" area where they will take out what you don't want, re-seal and re-price your bag. You MUST get them to rebag things and NOT rip open the bags yourself.

What are charity bags?

Charity bags are a couple products, prepackaged and "sold" to you for a donation of $5 and up. Items in these packages vary each day of the sale. You are limited to a maximum of 4 bags. The table selling these are after the checkout and before the hall way towards the parking lot (lesson learned)

Do you get anything free for attending?

Why yes, you can trade your used ticket in at the end for 1 MAC item - these also vary each day of the sale. I sadly did not pick up mine this time, I heard it was a nail polish that day.

Is there a limit to how much I can buy?

Yes, you are limited to $500 of products per ticket.

Overall Experience

Many people there were complaining about price increases in the last mac warehouse sale. Lipsticks used to be 2 for $15 instead of $12 each, cleansing oil used to be $10 not $15...the list goes on. Yes, I do admit the prices are quickly approaching that of CCO in the states (cosmetics company outlets). However, I still think it was worth it since the selection was easily 100x the items of a regular CCO. There were a ton of limited edition items from past collections that are usually hard to find. If you get your hands on a ticket - go there bright and early and enjoy your day.

Lush is having their post-christmas sale until the end of January;

all christmas items, gift boxes, and soaps are buy one get one free.

I didn't pick up any soap since I find that I never finish using them - fluffy loofahs get the job done so much faster! I did get a bunch of bath goodies, I've been really into taking baths lately ever since I moved and now have a nice big tub.

What are you lush favourites?

gingerbread house bubble bar - i normally despise ginger, but this smells like a combination of gingerbread cookies + sugar + something fruity. It's kind of a weird smell and hard to pin, but it's really addicting and I pulled it out to sniff all the way home.

snow white bath bomb - smells like green apple candy, love!

cinders bath bomb - smells like cinnamon and fruit, mainly got it since it has pop rocks on it that fizzle in the bath, how exciting! (i know, i'm a sucker for gimmicky things)

bearded lady bubble bar - smells alot like the therapy massage bar which i'm not a fan of, supposedly the lush site said it contains avacado and bananas which it smells nothing like hmm. I got it because it has little chunks of shea butter in it that makes it super moisturizing.

candy cane bubble bar - it's pink and smells like candy ♥ so cute.

once a year massage bar - smells spicy and sweet, i'm indifferent towards the scent. LUSH massage bars are amaaaaazing and by far my favourite product from them. I melt them with my hands and smooth onto my body right after a shower. It really moisturizes my skin and makes it so so soft.

I have dry and sensitive skin - I'm allergic to 99% of face products that I try. My face was desperately dry these couple of week, nothing was fixing the problem. I slathered this on and hoped for the best and it was a miracle worker! My skin is looking the best it's looked in a while.

[Now I'm not recommending all of you to use this on your face since it's a product that's not really meant for the face. Even though my experience with it has been positive please proceed with caution!]

Every few weeks I find a new blogger or youtuber who's style and taste I absolutely love. For the following few weeks, I religiously scroll through their old posts and videos whenever I'm procrastinating. I thought it would only be fair to share with you guys, since if you read my blog you'll probably love theirs too!

The blogger du jour is HRH's Collection, I first heard of her when meganheartsmakeup wore a necklace designed by her. Reasons I love her blogposts and videos:

01. She has amazing style yet everything she wears still manages to be comfy. She invests in staple pieces but she is still a bargain hunter and finds amazing deals.

02. She currently has an obsession with all things asian. Besides showing me cute accessories and goodies, I've also learned a lot of things I didn't know about my own culture from her. One new thing I've got to try is this Taiwanese salted coffee she's been raving about.

Purchased Rimmel's lipstick in 180 Vintage Pink. It's the perfect pinky/plummy colour for fall if you're also like me and aren't adventurous enough for darker fall lips. I have to rave about the formula of this lipstick - very moisturizing and goes on like a lipbalm.

Watched Victorias Secret fashion show with the roomies - complete with raspberry & blueberry wine. Show was entertaining but I def. missed a lot of retired VS supermodels - Tyra, Giselle, Miranda Kerr & Heidi are just a few to name. It was super cute when they showed Chanel getting her first wings though at her fitting.

Two of my favourite things are finally coming together in the OPI Katy Perry Collection. For me the highlight of this collection is definitely the crackle polish - I've always wanted to try these but never been able to get my hands on some! Here are the promo photos OPI released - the collection will be debuting sometime next January.

I remember being envious when they showed flip flop vending machines being installed in certain bars and clubs on tv. There is nothing more unattractive than a girl limping in her sky high heels. I absolutely adore the concept of these foldable flats. I rarely carry an extra pair of comfy shoes with me because of their bulk & weight. But when my heels hurt and every step feels like a torture there is NOTHING in the world I'd like more than some back up shoes.

Hello girlies, sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I know, excuse excuses, but I've been sick for the past month and I'm just starting to get better. Thanks for all your patience :) I really appreciate it.

I have been picking up contest prizes the past couple of times I've gone shopping. I'm so excited! I already have my next 3 contests planned, I hope you're as excited as I am :). The first one will be posted at 100 followers, so look out for that. I'll give you a hint - I picked up an extra goodie at Coach when I hauled there last week.

Me and a bestie went make up shopping last week. I went with the mission of checking out the Chanel mystique eyes quad that Lorraine over at thecurrentcustom raves about. It was pretty but not worth the price in my opinion, I found the shadows chalky and not as pigmented as I would like. I also wanted to have a look at the Bobbi Brown creamy concealers and it was way too cakey and looked awful on me. 2 lemmings instantly killed.

This was the store display at Holt Renfrew when we were at the YSL counter, it was prepared for an interview with the legendary Oscar de la Renta. It was so preppy that I couldn't help but snap a photo.

We also passed by this adorable Alice in Wonderland display at William Ashley.

MAC mineralized eyeshadow duo - Illusionary Burning Ambition (frost finish)

Described as a white gold with gold pearl & a deep milk chocolate brown with soft gold. These photos really do not capture how gorgeous this duo is in person. The shimmery gold is very pigmented and vibrant - the finish is really one of a kind and hard to describe. The brown is very close to MAC tempting, although it is more pigmented and could be easily used as a liner. The two colors combined and swirled together make a pretty olive color. I would highly recommend this versatile duo.

MAC eyeshadow - Vex (frost finish)

Described as soft pale green duochrome with pink opalescent shimmer. I love love love duochrome finishes and this was no exception. It's a very unique and multi-dimensional colour. It does morph into different shades depending on what it's paired with.

Makeup Forever HD microfinish blush - #6 Quickie

I received this sample size from sephora, it's a pretty salmon pink. It's an okay cream blush, nothing spectacular. I do hate the pump that it comes with though - it's messy and always pumps out WAY too much.

Living Proof full thickening cream

This was a little expensive - $16 for this tiny vial. I do love this stuff though, it keeps my hair big and volumized and doesn't fall throughout the night. I've also noticed that it keeps my hair smelling nice even when I leave restaurants and bars :).

Korres lip butter - Quince

Most bloggers are really divided on this product - people either love it or hate it. I, however absolutely adore it. This has been one of my best buys in a while now. My favourite thing about it is the pretty pink tint it gives my lips. I also happen to love the smell of this - slightly floral. The texture is very creamy and I'm already finding that I'm constantly reaching into my purse for it. I really do love these and am probably going to get every colour - wild rose is the next on the list.

summer nail trend - half moon nails

I am loving this reverse french manicure for the summer. It can be done with spring colours ie. hot pink and lime green or red with a bare half moon for fall/winter seasons as seen on dita von teese.

here are the items that you will need.

♥ a base coat - OPI natural nail base coat

♥ a top coat - OPI top coat

♥ a nail lacquer for the half moon - OPI gargantuan green grape

♥ a nail lacquer for all over the nail - OPI strawberry margarita

♥ some sort of sticker - french manicure stickers
- you can also cut tape into half-moon shapes, or use those hole-punch stickers

OPTIONAL - ♥ a quick drying drop - Sally Hansen speed dry drops

Step 1 - apply your base coat

Step 2 - apply 1 - 2 coats of your half-moon nail lacquer until opaque

Step 3 - make sure the polish is fully dried and put the sticker over your half moon

Step 4 - apply 1-2 coats of polish to the rest of the nail

Step 5 - let the polish dry before carefully pulling off the sticker

Step 6 - put on your top coat

OPTIONAL - Step 7 - use 1-2 drops of quick drying drops on each nail

As always, I couldn't resist making a quick trip to urban outfitters before heading to campus yesterday. Weather has been really up and down in Toronto these 2 weeks. Sometimes it's gorgeous and sunny out in the morning and ends in rain, wind, 5 degree weather and a cold and sad me. I cannot wait until the weather is nice enough to go to the beach. On a lighter note, I cannot wait for Iron Man 2 to come out next friday. ScarJo looks amazing in the promo photos.

find your foundation colour in other brands

hey dolls - I was recently buying foundation and stumbled upon this mega foundation chart. It shows your colour match in different brands of foundation - provided that you know your shade in one brand. For example I'm an NC25 in MAC and it shows me that in Makeup Forever I'm probably an HD120 or HD123, or in Revlon I'm probably Golden Beige etc etc.

This has made my life so much easier since it narrows down which colours to swatch when I go try different foundations at the mall. Colour matching is always such a pain!

I hope this helps you the next time you're looking to try new foundation.

I've been on a nail polish kick lately, hence my many nail polish posts. Here's a preview of China Glaze's Vintage Vixen collection coming out in July 2010. I am in love with the theme, the colours, and of course all the glitter. However, I do wish that they had come out with them sometime during fall/winter. I don't really see these as summer polishes, but none the less I will still pick up a few when they come out in July

Does this ad remind anyone else of Mad Men & Christina Hendricks or is it just me?

My favourites are Emerald Fitzgerald and Foxy - you can never have too many red polishes! Which ones are you looking forward to?

I love audrey hepburn and breakfast at tiffanys, and lately I've been searching for the perfect Tiffany Blue nail polish.

Essie Mint Candy Apple was close, but it was China Glaze's for audrey that was the perfect match. While searching for tiffany blue polish, I learned that the colour is actually trade marked by Tiffany & co. I never knew you could copyright a colour!

China Glaze - for audrey

This nail polish does dry very fast, as with most pastels. So work fast to avoid streaking and clumping! I got mine at Sallys.

SKINCARE

-How many times do you wash your face daily?
Twice - once in the morning with water or cetaphil, once at night with a cleanser

-What skin type do you have? (dry,oily,combo)
I have sensitive dry skin.

-What is your current facial wash?
Estee Lauder soft clean cleanser - I swear by this stuff. It deep cleans without drying out my skin.

-Do you exfoliate?
Yes, I exfoliate whenever I remember to or feels that my skin needs a boost.

-What brand do you use?
Current favourite is the Shiseido warming scrub.

-What moisturizer do you use?
At night, I use Elizabeth Arden visible difference cream. It's one of the only thick and moisturizing face creams I'm not allergic to.

-Do you have freckles?
Some, but I don't mind them.

-Do you use eye cream?
Currently using kiehls avocado eye cream, it moisturizes but nothing spectacular.

-Do you or did you have acne prone skin?
No, I've never really had a break out. Then again neither have my parents, yay for good genes.

-Did you ever have to use Pro-active?
Nope, although I have watched the gimmicky infomercials. I don't think I would've tried it even if I had acne.

MAKE-UP

-What foundation do you use?
MAC Studio Fix Fluid in NC25

-How about concealer?
I use my foundation as a concealer, it gives me enough coverage.

-Do you know your undertone color?
I have warm-yellow undertones, although some will place me as a neutral.

-What do you think of fake eyelashes?
I love them, but they're too much of a hassle on a daily basis. Personally, they make a huge difference in how I look in photos.My favorite are Ardell and MAC lashes.

-Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months?
Yes, due to bacteria build up. Although I find that mine dries up around then anyways.

-What brand of mascara do you use?
I swear by Covergirl lashblast. My old hg used to be Dior Maximeyes until they discountinued it.

-Sephora or MAC?
Hmm Sephora has hundreds of brands compared to MAC which is only one. So Sephora.

-Do you have a MAC Pro-card?
Nope

-What makeup tools do you use in make up application?
I always use brushes, I really dislike using my fingers and getting product everywhere. I'm a little OCD.

-Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes?
Only when I'm going out or know it's going to be a long day. Otherwise I don't bother.

-For the face?
Same as the eye primer, only sometimes.

-What is your favorite eyeshadow (color or shade)?
X by Urban Decay. It's a gold/pink duochrome.

-Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?
Liquid or Gel. Pencil liners aren't precise enough for me, plus the lines aren't very defined and they tend to smudge.

-How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?
Not really.

-What do you think of pigment eyeshadows?
I love anything shimmery, glittery or duo-chrome - therefore I do use pigments for the colour payoff. But I do find them annoying and messy to use, plus I hate all the fall-outs that I get from them.

-Do you use mineral makeup?
I have tried a few, but my skin reacts badly to alot of metals and metal compounds. I'm deathly allergic to most mineral makeup.

-What is your favorite lipstick?
Mac Hue - combination of a nude and pink which doesn't wash me out.

-How about lipgloss?

-What is your favorite blush to use?
MAC tenderling is my everday blush at the moment.

-Do you buy your makeup on ebay?
Nope. I dislike the idea of unreliable, possibly dirty and used or fake makeup. It's too much if a hassle to save a couple cents.

-Do you like drugstore makeup?
Generally no. I hate the cheap packaging.

-Do you go to CCO's? (cosmetic company outlets)
Yes, I drop by there whenever I'm in the States.

-Did you ever consider taking make-up classes?
Nope, I prefer experimenting myself. I would take a stage or special fx make up class though.

-Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?
Not really unless Im just having an off day.

-Name a makeup crime that you hate?
People who shave their eyebrows off and draw them in with pencil. Foundation colours that are wayyyyy off. Visible lip liner.

-Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick,eyeshadow) or neutral ones?
I personally really dislike colourful makeup and am a neural kinda girl. I do love colourful make up looks on others though. It all depends on a person's colouring imo.

-Which celebrity always has great make up?
I'm a sucker for reality tv shows. I always love Audrina and Kim Kardashian's makeup.

-If you could leave the house using just ONE make up item,what would you use?
concealer, it really brightens up my faces.

-Could you ever leave the house without any makeup on?
all the time, i'm a little lazy.

-Do you think you look good even without any makeup on?
I think I look okay, I have alright skin which helps. But I do look more put together with make up.

-In your opinion, what is the BEST makeup line?
Overall I would say MAC - they're the only brand where I love more than a few products.

-What do you think of Makeup?
I love it and think that it's fun to play with. If it makes you look and feel better than why not? I hate people who are holier than thou about make up and think that they're better than people because no make up means that they're less insecure.
